陶板屋 Tao Ban Wu Round 2

I wrote about Tao Ban wu in a previous entry, so here, instead of talking about my thoughts on the food, which is still somewhat similar to the last time, I will tell you about the story I alluded to in the previous entry. As I said previously, we had a bad experience at another restaurant location, and this time we went to that exact location because my mom’s friend was in town and was close to that area. Although we had said we would never return to that location, we ended up going anyway.

So what happened the last time we went to this specific Tao Ban Wu was that two waiters spilled different things on my aunt, I think once was tea and another time was the steak sauce. The reason was because we were sitting in an area where there was a small step that I guess the waiters forgot about and kept tripping on. If they were tripping without liquids on their trays, it would be ok, but unfortunately, they had to bring us liquids at some point. And my aunt was sitting next to the step, so she got the misfortune of getting food spilled on her, twice. She was, to say the least, unhappy, and there was a big fuss where in the end they discounted our food and gave us some presents to make us happy. It was just awkward, and the dining experience was absolutely ruined.

Luckily, this time when we went back, we noticed they had taken out the step area and just made it flat. I guess they had too many bad experiences with that step, so removing it was in their best interest. Heh. Overall, this time’s dining experience was definitely much better. Phew!

Salad ~ Duck breast on green salad. Not bad, not bad. But my pieces of duck were smaller than what they showed in the pictures. I felt lied to. 😦

Appetizer ~ Oyster mushroom. Love it.

Soup ~ mushroom cream soup. I liked it, but then again, I love mushroom. Can't really go wrong with that.

Fried rice ball with shrimp pieces. Super filling, and not all that great. It was either this or beef steamed rice (something like that), but since I was having steak for main course, didn't really want to get something else beef-related.

Break ~ They always give this tangy, sour drink to cleanse your palette and open up your appetite some more. Which you definitely need after the appetizer, soup, salad, etc. Great thing about it is it's refillable. I think I drank like five cups of this stuff. So good!

Main Course ~ Steak. Of course, it can't compare with the steak I had for my birthday, but still not bad. They also had a red wine sauce on the side, which went well with the steak.

Dessert ~ Some sort of cake; I don't really remember what it was called or what it tasted like anymore. Meh, not so memorable.

Drink ~ Iced tiramisu coffee. It looked like tiramisu in a cup! Heh, but it didn't taste like it; it was just iced coffee with some milk and chocolate powder. Not bad, but a tad on the sweet side.
